switching a coastal from chicks to rats
A friend of mine asked me how to change a coastal carpet from chicks to rats. he has tried most methods such as senting and braining with no joy. anyone any suggestions? or should he feed ducklings and quail?

if they dont take to rats they prob never will, there are certain methods like washing the rat and scenting it with a chick etc, but might take a lot of patience and doesnt always work.

i would move on to more substantially sized birds like duckling, grown on chickens, ducks, quails etc because they would be more developed.
has he tried a live baby rat? i have a male dumerils not feed for months on end and the one live muse got him feeding not a bother for me now.

Happy days on getting her onto rats, Coastals are rarely fussy feeders and with patience 90% seem to get the idea and switch on to rats. Scenting with birds (day old chicks are the only readily available source) can get many juveniles and subadults onto rats as that would be part of their natural diet at that age.
