Re: Coastal Carpet
Do you know what size / age / weight they are? Do you have any photos?
To get a breeding pair in a swap for a custom viv is quite good - it must be a big viv!
Generally, grown-on Coastals are puppy dog tame but as you would be getting them as adults, not knowing their history could mean they have the potential to be a tad temperamental - and a full-grown Coastal isn't something you want to be nailed by! I'd handle them thoroughly before committing to buy them. I have a handling rule with all carpets - never let them anywhere near your face or neck. One bite there from an adult can do a ton of damage as they have a fair set of teeth!
Tips.....they are the easiest of all the carpets to keep, get their temps right, make sure they have a cool spot and a warm spot, and they will thrive. All carpets love to roam so give them the biggest vivs you can - I have my adults in 6fters each (I'm a strong 'one snake, one viv' advocate) and if I had more room I'd give it to them!
Feed them like a carpet python i.e feed adults once in a blue moon, not like Burms i.e. so they end up fat.....carpets should be long and lean, not fat / girthy like a Burm. Fat carpets will simply not breed.
Breeding.....put them together and they do the rest!
Check out the carpet python caresheet I posted a link to in the 'caresheets' section of the forum, its the best caresheet there is and is very comprehensive.
