Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
*****A date for your Diary*****
Reptile "Show and Tell".
Saturday 5th March 2011. Dublin.
The H.S.I. invite you to bring your Reptiles, Amphibians, Inverts to show to other keepers.
A great opportunity for keepers to show their animals.
A great opportunity for keepers to get to see what others keep and to share and compare notes.
There are no formal talks, just good chat.
Due to the nature of certain animal species kept, there will be some restrictions.
Further details to be posted.
Ahead of those finalised details, please use this thread to post queries.
You may contact me at chair@thehsi.org for any advanced information on plans.

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Are exotic mammals permitted too, within reason of course? Hedgehogs and the likes?

We hadn't thought about that, and didn't think anyone would ask to be honest.
I'm not in a position to dictate rules without the approval of the committee..... so I cannot say yes and I cannot say no just yet.
I'll be back.

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Marty and Tan yous two better be there :) ! This'll be after the 2nd EIE meet up so all going well and i make it to that it'll be class to see ye both again!
I've made my decision, i think i'll bring Link and the Chile rose Ian. It'd be too much stress on my royals and one non-feeder is plenty
Plus people can see the 2 new legs the chile has re-grown which some people might not have seen in real life before :)
Ian any ideas yet as to what your going to bring ?!

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
@Joe...what am I going to bring?
Coffee, Tea, Biscuits of course. :)
Sometimes organising and bringing animals doesn't always mix.
If we do bring anything then it will be the easily moved vivs such as the tailess whip scorpion, a Tarantula maybe (umm..which one?), if it is warm enough I may bring thumbnail dart frogs (eg vanzolini or maybe even a dart frog tadpole or two), or an asian leaf frog as they can be put into a cube exo-terra for the day. Who knows?
I will, of course, be escorted by my super OH and Secretary to the H.S.I. (you have not met her on forums, but she is on my Facebook account).

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
I cannot wait for this event, it's going to be fantastic! Joe, really looking forward to meeting you...we've spoken so much but are sooo far apart, :)
I have to say, as far as exotic mammals go I think that anything such as bunnies/hedgehogs etc in a room where large constrictors will be present is a bad idea....
I'm very much looking forward to Ian and Justine's contribution on the animal side of things. And Justine is indeed super! I think a lot of people on the forums do not realise the huuuge commitments and contributions she makes towards the running of the HSI

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Point noted Lisa. Better safe then sorry and that never even crossed my mind.
I agree, I think unless you are involved in something like the HSI people cannot appreciate just how time consuming it is, how much dedication is required and all the hard work that goes into it.

That is such a nice thing to say. I'll pass that on to Justine, she'll be chuffed.
:)
Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Justine is Fantastic, i had the good fortune to meet her (and ian of course) at the Tarantula/probing/equiptment talk. Justine did the talk on Tarantula's and did an excellent Job.
I have had many committee positions before, i have to say being a secretary i found the hardest of all.

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Now, I would say that we moderate the thread down to some more serious focus on the event itself.
I would say that whilst we all like a good banter, the main focus is on taking the subject of herps seriously.
As we are dealing with living animals, there will be some rules and regulations posted here as a guide and on the H.S.I. website as officially binding and in full.
In summary, those rules, regulations and recommendations will take note of:
1. This is not a trade event.
2. No trading will be allowed on the premises or within the grounds, or adjoining grounds, of the premise.
3. Pre-Booking animals through the persons cited (viz: Steve or an e-mail to chair@thehsi.org . e-mails sent to chair@thehsi.org will be forwarded to Steve).
4. Only those specimens applied for and approved by the Society via the pre-booking system will be allowed into the venue.
5. There will be requirements regarding animal health.
6. There will be reasonable requirements regarding enclosures & conditions and transport conditions. Essentially these are focused on the welfare of the animal and on the safety of other animals, visitors and the environment.
7. We will request that any equipment brought shall be safe and fit for purpose.
8. We reserve the right to limit the number of animals a person brings.
9. The fact that certain species and/or size of species will be restricted.
10. Other restriction on specific animals will be applied.
11. The recommendations on safe handling of animals, and on prevention of zoonoses and spreading any disease to other animals.
12. In the rare event of an unsuitable specimen being brought to the event, even after pre-approval, the Herpetological Society of Ireland retains the right to refuse admission.
13. Respect for the venue property and the kindness shown by the venue.
14. Different members of the Society have volunteered specific roles to help with the event. Please respect the role of volunteers.
15. Issues or complaints brought to volunteers or to members with specific roles will be directed directly to The Chairperson.
16. In reference to our Constitution, the Society shall do and support all lawful things as shall be necessary to attain the main objectives of the Society..
17. The Herpetological Society of Ireland will take every reasonable care to make sure this event addresses welfare, safety and health item; the H.S.I. encourages visitors to respect such items and help us make a responsible and enjoyable day.
These rules are necessary, but are really no more than good acceptable practice put in writing.
And to very outspoken, I will say that these are in-place such that we, as keepers, can take pride in our endeavours towards excellence in animal husbandry. (that sounded very corporate, I know)
More detail will be posted on some items that need more specific detail.
I will re-post this at a later stage.
Entrance costing for the event have been announced…
Costing:
H.S.I. members and non-members are welcome.
Non-members may join on the day if they wish, membership will be assigned on the spot.
H.S.I. members are free.
Entrance for Non-H.S.I. members over the age of 12 years will be 5 euro.
Entrance for a lone parent accompanying young members will be free.

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
So who's coming and what are you bringing??
I'm thinking of bringing my Bumbleebee Toads. They're not suitable to be handled (like most amphibians I guess) but they're pretty to look at!

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Sounds good! I love Rainbow boas, we used to have a bunch of colombians and a haitian. It'll be nice for everyone to get to see a Paraguayan in the flesh as pics never do them justice!

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
Cat appologies i spelt your name wrongly in the last post.
Haitians are nice, i have unfortunately never seen one in the flesh, only images i'd have a pair in a shot though.
I'm aiming for some columbians this year though

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.

Re: Reptile Show and Tell in Dublin.
If Cat is bringing her Bumble Bee toads then I'm bringing......... my camera.
They are great little creatures, and I don't have any pictures of any.
I don't know too much about snakes.
But I am really looking forward to the opportunity to chat to people about their snakes and animals that I've not kept (and animals that I have kept as well) on the day.
There will be a few more updates as we go....details on directions and the exact time of the do.
Hoping you will decide to pop down Jonty, it'll be good to see you again.

I'm looking forward to it Ian, it was good to meet. You and Justine last time and of course I can't forget Fionnan, Mark, Steve etc hopefully I will get to meet more people this time also, unfortunately the bad weather last time affected a lot of people being able to make it. Can't wait to see what interesting animals everyone brings.
