EVENT. EVENT Sunday 16th October
OK folks. Put this date in your diaries:
Sunday 16th October 2011 (time to announced later).
At Rockbrook School, Dublin (map to be given later).
Watch this space.
or
Ask questions now.
OR, better still (to cut to the chase)......make realistic suggestions about items or activities for the event (or future events).

Re: EVENT. EVENT Sunday 16th October
Without going back just yet to re-read all posts made on this topic posted across the internet, it seems as though the following jump out:
kids competitions/activities;
a small selection of peoples animals;
snake probing;
large reptile handling workshop;
various small talks in the teaching rooms;
photo with an animal;
fish and the fish people;
presence of herp forums;
support for sungazer conservation;
chatting amongst yourselves (but please do not expect the HSI to organise the chatting schedule :) );
Cups of Tea;
a few other details that I do not remember off hand;
and a superb relaxed location to enjoy a day out.
More important than any suggestion is the realistic offer to be able to do such a suggestion, offers of help are most welcome.
Whatever the schedule, common themes that the HSI likes to see running through its events is the emphasis on educations and awareness, showing responsible animal keeping and welfare, and having relaxed fun-days to go with it.
The first items to be set in motion in the background are the Safety, Health and Welfare procedures. I take these very seriously such that we can have a relaxed fun-day on the day (as I say, you can only have a fun sky-dive if the Safety and Health procedures are done before hand :) ....not that I would understand why anyone would want to jump out of an bi-plane).

So talks/demonstrations that will be taking place on Sunday are
(not in any particular order)
1. Keeping and Maintaining large Constrictors in Captivity
2. Tarantulas as pets - a Woman's Story
3. Sexing Tarantulas and Tarantula Natural History
4. A Quick Guide to Field Herping
5. Herpetology Conservation Work in India
6. Captive Husbandry of Iguanas and the use of "Free Roaming"
7. Husbandry of African Clawed Frogs
8. Air Breathing Fish
9. Captive Care of Australian Water Dragons
10. Herpetoculture- a Young Keepers Perspective
There may also be an additional talk on
The Abandonment of Turtles into Irish Waterways
These talks will be scheduled over the course of the entire the day. A schedule will be posted in the near future.
Some of these talks will feature demonstrations with animals or the use of animals as props
As you can see it's going to be quite a day

Re: EVENT. EVENT Sunday 16th October
Steve must have been working overtime to take bookings for the animals.
It isn’t just a matter of receiving an e-mail and then adding the animal to the list: there are questions and checks to made.
The following list gives a sample of animals confirmed as booked as of 7am this morning, and for which exhibitors have given full confirmation of agreement of rules.
Black Head Python
Lasiodora parahybana (Salmon Pink),
Cyriopagopus sp (Singapore Blue),
Brachypelma boehmei (Mexican FireLeg)
Tapinauchenius Cupreus (Metallic Tree Spider)
Chinese Water dragon
Emerald Tree boa.
A few Inverts.
water monitor
Brachypelma smithi
Poecilotheria ornata
Periophthalmodon septemradiatus
Pachytriton labiatus
uromastyx geyri
uromastyx ornate
Pair of Water Dragons
caspian whip snake
“our micro gecko”
jungle carpet python
green iguana
pastel boa constrictor
Avic. geroldi / Brazilian Blue-Green Pinktoe Tarantula
Avic. versicolor / Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula
Chrom. cyaneopubescens / Greenbottle Blue Tarantula
Poly. aeruginosa / Madagascan Marbled
A good range of animals on display yet again. And, as opposed to the last Show and Tell, there is a good range of Tarantulas being brought.
