pacman/large amphibian breeding
hi guys don't worry im not thinking of breeding pacman frogs lol
but I was wondering how people do it? I mean they're cannibalistic, the eggs hatch in two days, the tadpoles are carnivorous and cannibalistic and every tadpole and froglet needs a separate container.... also they lay over 2000 eggs (or so ive heard) so how could a breeder have that many containers and food?
I think that this is the same with some other frog/toad species as well......
thanks
Dan

Re: pacman/large amphibian breeding
you would have to get your adults into season before you put your adults together by dropping your temps and lighting for a period of the year then rule of thumb is 3 females to one male in a large pool of water some breeders will add a hormone inducer (but i think this is illegal over here).
most breeders will put their eggs or tadpoles in small groups for a while and simply let the strongest survive,
very few people in the world have bred them and keep their method a secret most are captive farmed or wild caught.
im no expert on it and never done it but im building a large group at the moment and im gonna have a go

Re: pacman/large amphibian breeding
I remember hearing that large farms use hormones in breeding....
what's strange is most sources say that pacman frogs are one of the easiest frogs to breed lol
If very few people breed them then how come they're priced so cheap on online shops? (they're the only places I've seen them for sale)
Be sure to keep us updated if you do manage to breed them
thanks

Re: pacman/large amphibian breeding
they are so cheap cause thousands are imported from south america every year and big wholesalers can buy them for pence, in most reptiles wc is always cheaper than cb except beardies, leos and corns
