Re: First Spider
ohh very nice, well done and welcome to the addictive hobby of spid keeping :) I'm trying hard not to get more. Looking forward to seeing them if you get a chance to add some images.
Re: First Spider
Very good, welcome to the club!
If, God forbid, anything should happen to these, don't be discouraged, sometimes you're just statistically guaranteed to lose them.
A sling is the first thing that helped me get over my fear, she's getting bigger all the time and bolder too. There were already 30 odd other Ts in the house, which I would feed & water for my other half, but still terrified...
Get some pics up!

Re: First Spider
My other half knows that the spiders are here but as with the scorpions out of sight out of mind. However if one gets out - squish-. I let here see a picture of a whip scorpion but it came with a resounding no, too many legs, legs to long.

Re: First Spider
Here my set up. I have round plastic pots like the ones used for curry or gravey about 1/2 - 3/4 pint. The local pound shop does 10 for a pound. I have put vent holes in the lid. the substrate is vermiculite with some moss heaped up on the surface. There is quite a bit of moisture with some droplets on the sides to let the slings drink. One each pot.

Re: First Spider
Hows the other sling doing for you, the one i got a while back died, it would never eat, it used to run away from the food
Re: First Spider
ah it's to be expected with slings, a lot of them don't seem to make it, i've heard a lot of others having trouble with them.
Re: First Spider
How's that other sling doing for you now Moonstone? We've had rotten luck over the years with some slings, but have had great success with others. More success with pokies than chiles lol.
Wouldn't be too keen on using the vermiculite as a substrate, especially not on its own. It's not hard to keep optimum humidity in those wee tubs using just coco brick, which is what we've had the most success with. I've seen vermiculite sticking to spiders and hardening on them but no problems with plain coco brick or pure peat moss.

Re: First Spider
I have moved it from the plastic pot to a mini pets type aquarium, one of the small ones. Using vermiculite as a substrate with moss on top. Lightly spraying every day. It is very fine vermiculite. I will keep an eye on it.
Thanks for the information.
