1st spider
Well a few of you have a lot to answer for, cause i'm in the bad books with tanya as i appeared home with a Tarantula this evening, she had agreed to let me get one, the one in question is being picked on saturday, the one i picked up this evening was an unexpected extra.
Her he/she is a little Avicularia sp (pink toe), she's like lightning
i'll get a few more pics up in a couple of days once the little critter settles in.
And so another addiction begins

Re: 1st spider
Jonty, are you Tan's OH?! I'm clueless to who's who on here, I really am!
And what is it with people and spiders lately? I don't get it, I really don't!
I can appreciate the beauty of some. Those cobalt blues are amazing. But there is no way could I have one in the house!

Re: 1st spider
Ha ha no my wife is called Tanya, it's not Tanpira lol. I've wanted a spider for ages now and i think handling one in Tony's one night just pushed me to get one.
I used to think i would never own one but i changed my mind after seeing so many lovely spiders on here.

Re: 1st spider
Wow, not much thought went into my son's name. We only got around to giving him one when someone came around with a form while I was still in hospital! He'd probably be like most of the snakes and have none, if we hadn't had to register him and all that stuff....
Eughhhh...handling spiders...The guys in Rep village put a Chilean Rose literally under my nose last weekend. I almost ran out the door...

Hi marty
Lovely pink toe and great pics, this will be the first of many I predict, it just seems to grow on you and you definitely have to try the rearing of slings bit, its even more addictive.

Re: 1st spider
Marty, theres no doubt about it, thats one super spider to have for your first T. The arboreals look amazing and they are creeping onto my list as arboreal anythings eventually do (frogs, snakes, insects and now T's).
What makes it even better is that you have another arriving in 2 days time! Nice move!
Do you plan on handling him Marty? There are a few Youtube clips (spot the newbie LOL) of Yanks handling calm Avics and the way they move is brilliant - each leg movement seems exaggerated and they lift their legs high with each step, like walking on hot coals or something.

Re: 1st spider
Thanks Karl
I handled it earlier for a while which was interesting to say the least he/she is quite skittish and might i add quite fast, i'm hoping as it grows it will slow a little it's only around the 3" mark at the moment, it certainly didn't show any signs of agression which was pleasing.
You're right it was a good move, i was in the bad books for a while after i came home with it but then sheer fascination set in and nothing more was said, not even about the box of crix that came in with it

Re: 1st spider
Hey Tan
i'm getting a Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (green bottle blue) they are absolutely stunning, i don't think i've ever seen a tarantula with such fantastic colouration

Secretly, Marty, Tanya's just chuffed it ain't another snake! Have you told her about your future furries that you've planned? I really should stop winding Mrs. Jonty up - I should, but deep down I think she loves it!

Does Tanya know Don't be so cryptic, come on, spill.........
Re: 1st spider
Tanya isn't aware of all that I want as yet, if she did I'd be divorced by now. I have a list round here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it, some of them are easier to get than others so i will have to see what all is available.
