Thanks dan, esp these awful pics!
Sorry guys, We moved these guys last night and fed the female so i couldn't disturb them too much. So I've got terrible pics. Will follow them up with some better shots over the next few days
Waiting on our stupid racking to come so we can separate them again.
The female is what is known as a 'christmas tree' phase and is pretty feisty, to say the least.

The male is the classic golden colour. He's about half the size of the lady - tiny little thing! They're both 07's.

I have been fascinated by these guys for years, but only seriously started thinking about getting some over the past year. I did loads of research, got hands on experience with an acquaintance who was good enough to help me out.
I'm not interested in keeping hots as such - I wanted these because I love eyelash vipers. Not because I wanted to keep hots.
I am very confident in my ability to safely care for these beautiful little snakes. They are fascinating to keep. They don't move at all during the day, but become incredibly active at night. I've been guilty of sitting up until silly hours watching them go about their business in the dark!
They are as alert as any retic and watch absolutely EVERYTHING you do and every move you make.
Myself and Dave have transported quite a number of hots for various people on our trips from the UK and from Germany. And I have to say, they terrified me. I have no desire to ever keep anything like gaboons, puff adders - certainly not any naja! Beautiful as they are, I just couldn't. Not at this point in my life in any case.
A large, heavy bodied venomous snake is not something I want to be dealing with on a daily basis.
These guys are different - but are certainly NOT to be taken lightly. It is often said that their venom will not kill you and is not particularly dangerous.
It is deemed to be less potent than the venom of certain other species
But it certainly is dangerous! There have been deaths as a result of envenomation from this species. Loss of limbs, severe pain etc is more common. The bottom line is, you do not want to be tagged.
Re: Owners
They are beautiful Lisa, eyelash vipers are one of my favourite hots. Although their venom isn't as potent as some species, I think it is important with any venomous snake to be extra careful, you just never know.............
Super pics of two beautiful snakes. Thanks for posting them Lisa

Re: Owners
Veeerrry nice Lisa.....I have a soft spot for the tree vipers (they're the carpet pythons of the venomous world), and Bothreichis in particular. Yellow phase Eyelash Vipers are the holy grail of hots IMO. I remember seeing neonates available at Hamm in 2006 and I was soooo unbelievably tempted it was unreal.

Re: Owners
I've been dying to see these guys for a few months now and am not disappointed at all.
They are both beautiful but there is something about that female, she is gorgeous. So if they breed, what would you expect from this pairing?
Thank you Lisa for the pics and for the information. Would you like this post split in order to have their own thread? Seems only fair IMO.

Re: Owners
"How do you find him to keep Ari?"
Hmmm ... there is two opportunties what you ment (my english you know) with your question:
- How did I find this one:
It came from finnish hobbyist who have bred these for years
or
- Is this sp easy to keep:
Yes, very calm sp and needs so little "extra" care - sparying water 2 - 3 times a week to keep humidity ok and that´s it ... exellent "first" venomous for rookie - if he remember that it is really VENOMOUS and fast.
I think that this was what you really asked from me ...

Re: Owners
Sorry, yes that is what I meant, how are they as a species to keep :) & your English is excellent! Thank you for the information. I think I would be far too nervous around something like this and probably make a silly mistake, but, I can admire them from all the wonderful images keepers like yourself provide us with.
Do you plan to acquire a girlfriend for this boy at some stage?

Re: Owners
It was my first ven and I was quite a "nervous" with it when I got it, but time and few silly (as you said) mistakes ( it strike to a cameras lens when I photographed it - it was too near I would say) have teached me how to work with it ...
I have one young greenish 1.0 here too ... so some day there might be few little ones here (this yellow is 0.1 as I wrote ) - hopefully

Yes you did, I was just testing peoples observation skills (well that's the story I am sticking with hahaha) I would love to see some images of your other one if you hand any to share. I know Lisa will just LOVE this girl when she gets on.
Re: Owners
Ooooh she's absolutely STUNNING!
I can't get enough of these guys. I've had rear fanged before, but the schegli are my first real 'hots'. I would tend to agree with them being a good first venomous species (assuming someone is copped on enough to be considering venomous in the first place), but only when CB and already established on a rodent diet.
How are yours for feeding Ari?
