Cool Dude....
So, I needed to clean out this little SD's tub earlier on, decided to perch him on my desk chair...well, he just curled himself up and was happy as a sand boy..."ok", says I, "a quick photo and you can get rehoused" well photo was duly taken, however, the little chap stayed there whilst I was doing the upload/download thing and has only just been returned....these guys...I mean the Retics in general are like dogs of the snake world, I swear it!!! Proper personalities and dare I say, rather smart for a snake....

Re: Cool Dude....
Tony, could these be the ultimate snake - not only for their startling beauty, but also for the other qualities you mentioned. They really have a 'something' which is very hard to define: they just have the x factor!

Good man Aaron. I like to read responsible comments like that from people and I for one will always admire these guys via Tony and other peoples excellent images. A little too much for me, me thinks

Very mature approach Hudsy...good for you...
Re: Cool Dude....
It's so great to see more people getting to know and appreciate retics for how wonderful they are. So many people still have such a misguided vision of these amazing snakes.
Fab picture Tony, such a bright little guy! It's so annoying not to know where these have been collected from, I much prefer to be able to use a locality term for any retic rather than just apply 'superdwarf' to them.
Tan - you have rat snakes, you'd be more than able for a small dwarf retic!

Re: Cool Dude....
Great pic Tony of the little fella...well done mate........a great captive bred F1 pair you have there........and it is a pity the breeders wont disclose the locality, but it is without doubt to protect the wild populations of this locale, from being over-collected....they are definately 1 of the brightest patterned supers that i have seen........ cant wait to see the future developement of these guys

Re: Cool Dude....
I have more of a feeling they may come from an island which doesn't even have a name, as there are so many small Indonesian Isles. It is also next to impossible to know where exacctly they have come from unless you have collected them yourself, as I know you know Mark!
The thing is 'superdwarf' is a term that is very much frowned upon in the hardcore retic world, and many respectable breeders refuse to use it at all, apart from in reference to the clark/Wilbanks line. It tends to be seen as an 'American' marketing phrase. Many people see the Clark line as not a pure locality at all now, more of a mix and match of small retics probably from a variety of locations. But they've been outcrossed so much now, it is impossible to tell.
Either way, it is obvious to me that selective breeding can and does result in tiny snakes. I don't believe any more that any locality can be guaranteed to stay small in captivity - it is all about selection of appropriate breeding animals.
It will definitely be interesting to see how these develop. It has certainly happened that F1 and F2 breedings have resulted in small snakes which have gradually become bigger in captivity. I think that is something ANY dwarf retic owner must be prepared for. But these are dainty dwarfs, that is for sure
