Re: new dwarf retics
I love retics, but would only be dwarves I'd have. Normals are far too big for my liking. What sort of money would you give for dwarf retics?

Re: new dwarf retics
Depends where you get your 'superdwarfs'.
Superdwarfs is a term coined by Bob Clark to describe the retics acquired by himself, Mike Wilbanks and one or two others in 1999. The term superdwarf was intended to refer to those animals and their subsequent descendents.
Of late, the term has been used more and more loosely.
The Clark animals average 4-7 ft, with the vast majority staying well under 7 ft and remaining very slim.
If these are indeed a new locality, only time will tell exactly how small they stay

Re: new dwarf retics
Retics are totally new to me here, keeping wise, and already i have fallen hook line and sinker for these guys. Their are signs of true intelligence when you interact with them and the way they fix that intense gaze onto you while you're near them amazes me...they seem to be scanning you and taking everything in. When I open their rubs they seem to come directly to me , unlike several species that simply bolt for freeedom,lol....
Gave them their first feed here last night and was surprised by their feeding response, expecting a wild frenzy, they simply homed in on their food and took it confidently and deliberately, unlike my young carpets who go crazy at feeding time, striking frantically and pulling the mice from the tongs.
Here's a couple of quick snaps to judge their girth after being fed breeder adult mice and one of the female stretched out more , showing her size ( the rub is 30" x 12" and that's an 8" water bowl beside her ).....

Re: new dwarf retics
Really are beautifully marked aren't they. Loving your descriptions on behaviour. I think I would have had a misguided view of these animals before all you lovers and keepers started posting more and more about them. Honestly I would have thought negatively about retics. Although I remember a few years ago Ben having a dwarf (don't anyone start at me for using that term cause I'm just saying lol) something or other and I played with the female for ages and she was tiny, no bigger then an adult corn and as placid. I'm going to have to check with him and see what they where exactly, if he remembers that is, it was years ago but I'm almost sure they where retics.
Re: new dwarf retics
Delighted you're getting on so well with them dude, they really are fantastic animals, aren't they !!!
Re: new dwarf retics
I now understand lisa how yourself and others get hooked on this amazing snake.....totally different from any other snake species I have ever worked with over the years!!
Something tells me there will be more of these pop up here so tell those ones of yours to hurry up and start getting jiggy with it !

Re: new dwarf retics
They're completely addictive! They're just sooo interesting to keep compared to any other snakes I've kept over the yrs also - and it's great to see others appreciating them. There is so much bad info out there about retics in general that you just have to keep them for yourself and realise how rewarding they can be.
If Freedom Breeder UK hadn't messed me around, mine would be paired up already
The following yr should be when ours really come into their own - have a few very nice females that aren't quite up to size, but should be next yr
Wish you many yrs of enjoyment out of these guys!x
