Re: I have everything crossed
Tony, an empty 4ft viv is soooooo easy to fill - you've got the 'ol 'empty viv syndrome'
Well Hudsy if I had the choice between a boa and a carpet to live in a 4ft viv, it would be a very easy choice! I like my snakes active and out in the open so its carpets every time.
Most carpets lay 25-30 days after their pre-lay shed, so if she's going to lay for me it will be in the next 4 weeks or so. That said, animals never conform to rules and she might lay nothing, in which case I'll have to wait another year :)

Re: I have everything crossed
A wee quick look in on Uluru this evening and she looks just like normal with no obvious swelling to her rear third.....is she deceiving me or giving me the run-around? Time will tell!

Re: I have everything crossed
She's one of those females that likes to keep you guessing Tony....this morning she's noticeably swollen! She's still off her food and basking inverted quite a bit so all the signs are still there.....sometimes she rests in a posture that hides the swelling I think.

....Indeed she won't Tony......

I walked into the animal room for a quick look-around about an hour ago and saw this - she's 3 days earlier than the average due date for Bredl's so basically she's more or less spot-on with her lay date. She looks like she needs a good shed LOL - also notice the single small, infertile egg by her side. I've found that carpet pythons are pretty good at discarding these prior to incubating.
To say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement LOL - this is a personal and very long-awaited milestone for me. Seeing Uluru bee-hived around a clutch of eggs was until tonight a wee dream in my head :)
Now the second big wait begins!

Re: I have everything crossed
Thanks guys, I'm still on cloud nine LOL
Phil - the average incubation period for these guys is around the 60 day mark, so the second week of October is the finish line if all goes well between now and then. Separating her from the clutch was much easier than I anticipated - I went in with the 'ol welding gloves and expected to take a hit, but she was incredibly docile so I took them off and was able to unwrap her and lift the clutch out bare-handed. These are incredible pythons to work with, their temperament is like no other Morelia I've worked with so far. Sheila my Coastal would've bit and dragged me into her viv if I'd tried that with her!
In total Uluru popped out 19 fertiles and 1 tiny infertile, so I'm beyond pleased.
