I have everything crossed
I wasn't intending to breed anything this year to give my females a year off to bulk up.....however one of my females had other ideas. While I was cleaning out a few nights ago I noticed that my female Bredl's (Uluru)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
was ovulating, and she's also recently gone off feeding, so I popped the male (Mac)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
in with her to see what happened next.....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After much courting / spurring they tail locked!
I also managed to get some brief video footage of the spurring and will try to upload it later.
This is a snake I'm very keen on as I dreamed of owning one for years and years before finally owning one. They can be a fickle species to breed and so I have everything crossed!!

Re: I have everything crossed
Thanks guys, they aren't proven breeders but are old enough to breed (Bredl's need to be older than most other Morelia before they will breed) so its up to them really.
They are very docile snakes, although when feeding time comes and they're hungry they don't mess around!
WAMA, I see you've found Australian Addiction's website going by your avatar [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I agree with you Paul. Yes you wouldn't have got far with that Bredl's because I'd have rugby tackled you and made off with it myself!! Brilliant news, Karl!

Re: I have everything crossed
Raymond, even you would have totally failed, Karl would have raced to his wardrobe, slipped on his Muay Thai head band and shiny silk fighting shorts, turned and leapt in one aggressive and fluid movement to deliver a couple of precise and extremely painful flying drop kicks, rendering you incapacitated for an undeterminable period....
By unlocking and bending each finger backwards, eventually he would prise back his snake from your death like grip....and then, finally, he would look down on you with distain, rubbing the base of his nose with his thumb as aptly demonstrated time and again in "Enter the Dragon"....and make one of those high pitched Kung Fu squeals.....just to rub salt in the wounds!!!
Dude, with that kind of reaction [and apparently it's kind of mild for Karl] it's not even worth entertaining the thought.......

Tony, just so that you know, I have a black belt in Karaoke - and I do a very mean 'I will Survive'. Even Karl with his martial arts training would be at a loss as both his hands would be covering his ears!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Apologies for the poor lighting in the vid, I only had a small light on in the room to give them a bit of peace LOL
Which was good timing, because after a brief separation and re-introduction, Mac got to work again this evening.....

Re: I have everything crossed
Congrat Karl. Thats awesome news. I am still toying with the idea of picking up a piar of Bredl's (just bought a piebald ball python and this year I was planning no purchases, lol). They are ridiculously cheap here now, but what a stunning animal.
Isn't it great to have gravid snakes. Now we play the waiting game :)

Re: I have everything crossed
Uluru is really giving me the waiting game.....she's been getting gradually darker now for the last few weeks, and if she gets much darker she'll be verging on black! Lots of basking at the warm end which is encouraging and surely she is due her pre-lay shed very soon

Re: I have everything crossed
Happy days Karl. There is a website called southern cross reptiles which has a few good articles on Australian pythons. What size of viv do you keep your adults in mate?

Re: I have everything crossed
Yep, I know the site and have chatted to Gavin Bedford - he and John Weigel have an outstanding collection but then they are in the Aussie python heartland! Gavin Bedford picked the first albino Olive python up in the wild and Southern Cross were also the first to breed albino Darwins in captivity. Considering their achievements they are both very down-to-earth guys.
When I finally finish building them, my adult Bredl's will be going into a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft viv stack although I know people who keep them in 6ft wide vivs and they love the space.....with carpets, you can never give them enough space as they are active snakes that are always on the prowl.
