my common boas... poss. het for weird ;)
these are a 1.1 pair produced by genetic gems in the uk. theyare littermates and came from a really dark mother, so are possibly heterozygous for this trait. i plan to breed them to see if i can prove it out. they have really dark tails that i hope is a heterozygous marker.

Very nice Boas. Is there anyway we could get some clearer shots enabling us to appreciate them that bit more
Re: my common boas... poss. het for weird ;)

Re: my common boas... poss. het for weird ;)
just wtached the video, certainly gives a better look at these 2 boas, very pretty unusal animals.very rich colour with the black tails looks great.
will be great to see how young from this pair turn out.at worst you are going to have lots of similar looking babies.
you know to prove these out you will need to breed the male to a normal female and then breed back the young to the parents to be sure what way this gene works if it is a new gene.
Do you know how many out of the litter turned out looking like your pair?

Re: my common boas... poss. het for weird ;)
no, what happened was that there 2 are brother and sister off a (i think wc) melanistic female... soo if it proves to be simple recessive, then that would make these 100% het for that gene. by breeding these back together my hope is that 1/4 look like therir mother.
if 2/3 of the normal babies look like these and prove to be the het carriers, then that would make these guys visible hets, similar to het granite in burms.

if genetic gems are doing test breedings it will be good to see what they make of these.
visable hets means co-dominant in my book, like pastel royals are het for super pastel etc, etc.
Have you got any pics of the adult female maybe a link to some more info?

well what i mean is simple recessive lol... but for example, with eht granite burms, you can tell normal het albinos from their pattern. i'm hoping that this darkness with these guys is kinda the same thing if that makes sense.

ah....yes i know what you mean,
i read a simmilar thing on boas, het albinos may have less pagments than a normal...
