corn snakes
hey ive been strongly thinkin about gettin a corn snake and i want to know the best heatin method
and although i have read and seen that heat mats with thermostats seem the most popular
i still dont think that how that would have an air ambient temperature of 30c
so if anyone can plese tell me ive been thinkin of gettin a baby and puttin it in a faunairum large flat
if that wud be suitable let me know please

Re: corn snakes
Hi
For corns I think it is best to use heat mats on the floor of the tank with a thermostat.
Snakes tend to use rocks and other items to heat themselves rather than basking in sun light like lizards.
If your getting a baby corn try and get a smaller enclosure at first then move up a size after about 6-9 months

Re: corn snakes
Hi geckomatt,
Corn snakes do not require tropical temps, and an ambient temperature of 30 would not be necessary. A basking spot of about 28 with a lower ambient temperature will be fine.
A heatmat with a ministat is generally sufficient to achieve this, but in a particularly cold house you may need to add other heat sources, especially in larger tanks.
The HSI has a corn snake care guide it's worth having a read of

Re: corn snakes
There are loads of places now selling frozen mice. I think Pets At Home even do them now.
As long as you are only buying for 1 or 2 snakes then the price will ok.
