Stunning!! So this is Aphonopelma Chalcodes? How do you find it to keep?
I have an Aphonopelma sp here :)

Re: Desert Blonde
Tis indeed Aphonopelma chalcodes Tan, my fav Aphonopelma besides A. bicoloratum.
This girl is very placid and has never even tried to bite yet, although she can be a little flighty. Apparently she is a Tucson, Arizona form rather than the Mexican form which is more common and has duller legs.
Is your Aphonopelma sp. a Payson Blonde? New River Rust Rump? or similar as yet formally unclassified species?

Re: Desert Blonde
Mines a New River Karl and I love her, she's simply stunning, well IMO anyway. I wouldn't mind another few of these (and this pic is rubbish, she's way nicer in person) They almost look like the same spider don't they?
Re: Desert Blonde
She looks very similar alright - I've no idea what separates many of the unclassified Aphonopelma from the likes of A. chalcodes. I like the Aphonopelma T's a lot.....for a group of essentially dull-coloured T's they draw my eye for some reason. I wouldn't say no to an A. modestum or A. behlei.

I have no clue either. I'm the very same. I think they are beautiful spiders and those blacks, omg how pretty are they. If you ever do find any let me know :)

Re: Desert Blonde
Hi Guys
Great pics, how do you find them as feeders our chalcodes feeds really well for several months and then has quite a break before starting feeding again, this is so unlike our other T's and I wonder if its peculiar to this particular species.
Our A. chalcodes - 'Arizona'

Re: Desert Blonde
Nice chalcodes John! I haven't had mine long so can't comment on feeding habits just yet but many desert species do the same with me - Chile Rose, Copper Chile and at the moment also my Arizona Hairy scorpions.
Just like Royal pythons, their food comes seasonally in the wild and many desert animals seem to retain this 'seasonal memory' and fast themselves for periods of time. Come to think of it, the only desert animals that haven't fasted here yet are my Bredl's pythons and Womas.
