Biggin it up India style
After a good deal of searching I finally managed to track down a few juvies of the Giant Indian Forest scorpion, Heterometrus swammerdammi. Apparently they are the longest scorpion on record at 9" (although Emperor scorpions get bulkier)....these guys have a bit of growing to get to that size though!

That brute must pack a punch . Most scorpions with small nippers and big stingers do .

Re: Biggin it up India style
Yep, its one hairy dude alright.....and his girlfriend is equally hairy (Danish influence perhaps? LOL)
Apparently the sting of these guys is only a fraction worse than a sting from the Emperor, although its all relative I guess as each person will react differently and each scorpion may envenomate with different amounts of venom. When fully grown these guys use their size and large pincers as their first line of defence, so the venom is at the milder end of the scale (as it is in other Heterometrus species).

That's putting it mildly Tan I have had an irrational fear of these for years, I don't know why. One thing is for sure you'll never ever see one of these in my house........
Re: Biggin it up India style
LOL and I thought I was bad with my irrational fear of spiders for years. Go on Marty, confront your fear

I'd join in here but I fear I may see the inside of Pinchy if I keep it up and I rather like them where they are at the moment, as does he I'm sure

Niiice - these guys are my first Heterometrus so no doubt they'll be the same. Not that I mind - it all adds to the entertainment in the animal room!
