Most people seem to suggest them as first spiders a lot and are great for handling, i guess not all of them are then

Re: Red Hot Chile
I no longer think that a Chile makes a good starter T - after talking to a few friends who are more experienced T keepers, and having experienced some of the Chile nature personally, they seem prone to 'mood swings' and can be unpredictable, and also have large fangs that can inflict a good bit of pain and damage. There are other T's out there that seem to be much more steady and with smaller fangs if the inevitable happens.
Whether the Chile is WC / CB / LTC plays a role obviously but so too do aspects of their husbandry. Like all animals it comes down to the individual - some will be very calm and reliable as hand pets, others aren't.....but then there are a few King Baboons out there that seem to be handlable!
I think the trick is to work out what your Chile is and work around that. I'm not a big handler of most of my animals anyway so whether they are calm or not, it doesn't bother me. An aggressive and flighty T will make you sharpen your manipulating and husbandry practices very quickly whereas you can afford to be blase most of the time with a calm and steady T.

Re: Red Hot Chile
I fully agree Karl based on my experience with an entire ONE Chile hahaha and speaking to others keepers, you being one of them which did calm me I have to say.
She is nothing at all like the spider I have heard so many talk about over the years and it does seem to be an individual thing but then as I said, she is my only experience with a real life one so my input isn't really of any benefit here (sorry for the hijack)
