New Female Black Headed Pythons
Well firstly i just want to say a big big thank you to Lisa, Dave & Dave's Dad. Thanks so much guys
I got to spend the guts of 3 hours with them going through their collection, holding so many different snakes and having a good talk on genetics and snakes in general. I got roped into helping Dave tackle a 13ft girthy strong Jampea Retic Steve Irwin style while Lisa stood to the side and had a good laugh. Was a great day and to top it all off i got to pick up my two new female BHP's. I even took my dads SLR camera with me to take some really nice detailed pictures of their snakes but i was so blown away i completely forgot... Sorry guys.
Anyways introducing the two new females. Both of them already had a big dump as soon as i put them into their vivs... Hopefully a sign of them having settled already? Or maybe its their way of telling me what they think of their new homes.... There is some branches and other bits to each setup but had to take it out to get some good pictures.
Because i got my male as a sub-adult i havnt had the pleasure of having these snakes from young, iv taken a particular shine to the 2010 female.

Re: New Female Black Headed Pythons
They are absolutely stunning, I'd love one. What are they like temperament wise?
I reckon Lisa and Daves collection would be a sight to behold, some absolute stunners from what I've seen so far. Lisa certainly has her head screwed on, letting you two lads do all the work
Once again congratulations on the new additions, they are absolutely beautiful, thanks for putting photo's up

Re: New Female Black Headed Pythons
Cheers guys :)
Really happy with them. They are fine Marty.. The 09 female was a bit hissy yesterday but other than that fine once i had her in my hands. The 10 girl is so placid just trying to get them to stay still is a nightmare itself though!

Re: New Female Black Headed Pythons
Mark, what can I say, STUNNING
You have great taste and the images are excellent. They are such an unusual looking snake aren't they? I don't know too much about them so pardon me if this question is an obvious one but do we know more on the thinking behind the markings, as in for hunting, camo etc...??

You're a lucky boy Mark...in that you were lucky to get out the door with these two! You instilled great trust in us I have to say!
They're beautiful and best of luck with them. That Jamp is well and truly back to herself after digesting her big meal, you're welcome to come help out with her anytime!
Marty- too right. I get enough bites and love squeezes around here, might as well let someone else risk their limbs for once!

Re: New Female Black Headed Pythons
Thanks all :)
Tan - Im not 100% sure but in relation to the Black Head RMG was telling me that it is believed that they evolved to have the black head as they can absorb heat much faster and heat the brain. Or even remain hidden beneath the substrate with just the head raised absorbing the sun so they are not fully exposed. I have seen this first hand with my guy it was such a great sight.
Thanks Lisa :)

Re: New Female Black Headed Pythons
It was my understanding the colour Black absorbing heat faster or more heat was quashed as a Myth years ago via chromatics. I could be wrong, it's a long time since I've looked at anything and people make mistakes all the time or advances change previous thinkings.
How cool is it that you saw this? Now that really is excellent. I love when you get to see first hand a little bit of natural behavior or something not often seen and if you're anything like me I tend to get all OMG, OMG, OMG and do stupid little arm movements in excitement You'll have to keep the camera handy by his viv and try get a sneaky snap.
