Re: Progression from hoggies
Just had to give in today and send off for a set of welders gloves because of this guy....OOOooh the shame
Lovely once he's out but it's the getting him out that's the fun,lol.....tagged me the other day while getting him out to clean him,, just got my wee pinky and no more but has decided to be just a little snotty and viv defensive so thought better safe than sorry

Re: Progression from hoggies
Haha Is he alright when out?
a few of ours are very viv defensive, but we just tap them (or some respond better to having their heads covered) and then take them out gently, no sudden movements and it's all good.
Dave has learned the best of welders gloves don't always offer complete protection from retic teeth

He's an angel once out but will bite out eveytime I have to work around him.
Gloves are more for reinforcing my bravado than for bite protection i'd say, lol....

Re: Progression from hoggies
Don't let anyone tell you there's anything wrong with it either - I've been guilty of it in the past! The thoughts of being bitten are much worse than the actual act generally, and I find it really imortant to handle them with confidence. So no harm wearing gloves! It's a right pain getting blood everywhere all of the time in any case.
Have you tried covering his head before taking him out? Or tapping him?
I would say that with most of our tics, you can't work around them. If they see a heat signature, they will bite! so I just take them out and tub them until I've done what I need to do.

Re: Progression from hoggies
Hopefully he'll settle down like the other two once he's more settled and used to my ways. Try tapping him with the hook and he simply attacks it,lol....
The other 2 now know if I tap them and no food appears within a few seconds of opening their rubs to simply lie back and watch the world go round so fingers crossed this guy is a quick learner as well !!
Not a fan of gloves normally as I like to feel contact and they constrict your hands somewhat but after seeing the teeth in this guy the sacrifice will have to be made meantime. I also feel from past experience that many snakes don't respond well to gloved handling too well either so the sooner I can do without them for him the better ....

Re: Progression from hoggies
Sounds like a feisy little guy Buddy....be interesting to see how he/she progresses....fortunately ours are all placid and respond very well at cleaning and maintenance time, however, I always have a set of gloves available in the room, Jack spends a little time daily [less post feeding days and shedding] with our young "Lav" male and he's becoming one of the most tractable snakes at ours....
Re: Progression from hoggies
That is one good looking snake !!!!!!!
Have to agree that if wearing gloves gives you abit of confidence then you should nervousness will only make the snake more jumpy imo.

Re: Progression from hoggies
Hey Buddy, sorry I missed this.
He is a cracker . There is something about those eyes and I really do see the appeal with these guys but teeth, strength and speed are something that would put me off (being the resident wuss n all lol).
