Dude, even if you had a camera with you'd have to be super fast to capture a shot during flight....I have one very close to the house...you know he's coming up the lane 'cause all the other birds scatter with a degree of alarm....the Sparrowhawk shows for a flash and is gone as quick as he came...mighty impressive bird though and good to hear there are more around....anyone else seen the old Sparrowhawk recently??

Maybe you should invest in that camera then....have it at the ready and you might get the same stroke of luck in the next year or two!!! Opportunities sure don't come around that often, good luck anyway....

Buddy,
Isn't that weird...it's not as if they compete against one another...having said that would a Buzzard chase a Sparrowhawk away from it's kill???
Re: Mr Jay Bird...
i have one wapped up under the tree, so fingers crossedi see it again. my da has seen it a few times. he used to be a falconer, had a couple of paair of sparrow hawks. he said its a young bird that probably is still on the look out for a territory, so hopefully it makes it round here........................Tony W wrote:trunx wrote:but the thing is iit landed on my fence for a good 15 seconds. i was gutted.............

Wouldn't put it past them Tony , also think they may intimidate the smaller raptors out of the area.
