so for those out there who have aq burm can you possibly post up some tips that have made your burms great pets...the bits that care sites dont tell ya lol
also what sizes yours are averaging and nt really visibly getting bigger....
what weights your adultws are...
how often you are feeding them...
what size of tanks you have them in...
how often do you interact with them...

Re: burm care info needed...please
I don't keep burms mate.
And i won't til i'm 18 simply cos there growth rate is massive and i don't have the experience to handle a snake of 7 or 8 foot yet..
Feeding intervals depends on the prey size, as with any snake. Babies fed once every 5-6 days, and larger burms on rabbits and such fed every 14-15 days, the larger the food, the bigger period between feedings.
They're gonna need plenty of 'leg room' so give them space. you'll need something very big, i don't know the exact dimensions.
I suppose if you get one or two as babies to watch grow, then handle them as much as you can to keep them tame. This'll obviously help down the line when it's 15 foot long...
Joe.

Re: burm care info needed...please
well i used to handle a 7fter in at my local petshop twice aweek for a while as i was plannig to get him...but then i got a problem and i couldnt afford to get him...
well im planing on a 4ft male...but i could get them as a pair reasonably cheap..
well i was thinkin if i got a female i would kinda slow down her growth just a small bit by feeding her whats the same size at her widest part and bout max 2 days later so example instaed every 7 days id go every 8-9 days,
but only start this when shes say 10-11ft hopefully this will max her around 13ft
ive seen and read people have did this reduced growth by a few feet and they claim no effect on ther snake....(this is all if i get the female, i may wait a year)
another thing i read that it could take 5yrs for one to get 10ft, but it may just take 2yrs to get 10ft,
but any way im dead sit a 4ft male, female is just maybe...

Re: burm care info needed...please
You cannot underfeed a burmese python to keep its size down. If you are considering that, then you should not have a burm.
I am of the opinion that nobody under the age of 18 should have a burmese python, considering that despite the fact that they are not on the DWA list, they are still a dangerous wild animal and should be treated as such. You have a chance with envenomation with antivenom, but as has once or twice been said - there's no anti-asphyxiation vials sitting in a lab/hospital somewhere....

What Dutch said
I am against under and overfeeding snakes. It's unhealthy.

Re: burm care info needed...please
Let me show you what 10 foot burm can do to you.... This is our albino girl, a bit nutty, but manageable. She can't just be 'handled' like you would any other snake as she is not like that... She was wrapped around my other half, Chris' arm and despite him being quite the 'strap of a lad' and a full grown man - he could feel the bones in his wrist about to snap....

Re: burm care info needed...please
I agree with what the guys said Hudsy. I mean no disrespect but they are powerhouses and dangerous animals and I for one do not wish to hear you've been injured or worse.
Here is a suggestion for you, an Indigo. Big, beautiful, active and intelligent snakes noted for being placid yet not many seen over here at all

Re: burm care info needed...please
ok i hope yous are happy yous talked me out from getting a female (joke),
this is why i posted this thread to see what im getting from other places is of any use, compared to those locally keeping burms, and what i said in that prev post were all things i had gotten from the internet and i did state that it was things that i got from the internet...
well im still thinking on going for a male ive spotted a baby male at 3-4 ft in length i will give me a year or so to work with him from a small size...
