OMG, your boy really is a super tick, he's branded with the initials How excellent is this (sorry Buddy in advance but if you haven't realised by now, I tend to see strange stuff and have to share this :) )

They really are beautiful Buddy. I also love the 'T' on the males head but those eyes are amazing.

He always does, but what about those retics
Re: our teeny tics...
Why shucks Tan....
They are softies once they realise there is no food around, if a little hyper, lol....
If food is in the room you open the lids off their rubs at your own peril

Re: our teeny tics...
Lucky they're small dwarfs!
Dave finally got the 13 ft dwarf retic's mouth around his hand, while he was wearing welding gloves tonight. There are some serious tears in his hand.
I'm chasing him with the alcohol hand gel, haha!
Really though, she's only a dwarf (although a big one) and it was pretty hard work getting her off us. If she didn't constrict everything that goes near her, it wouldn't be so difficult.
Ahhh, the joys of teeny retics, so much easier!
Re: our teeny tics...
I'm working on hook training here, not sure how effective it will be though, and on feeding nights I have the weaner on the tongs and into the rub as soon as the lid opens. They're slowly learning that if food isn't there when the lid opens that it's time to come out instead.
Were you feeding the dwarf tonight or has it just got a little extra spirit about it ??
Ps....you know what's coming next
PICS!!!!!!!!!

Re: our teeny tics...
Neither listerine mouth wash, alcohol or anything else will work with this girl . Once she latches on, that is that.
When you try to use anything like that or pull her off, she just constricts even more. Dave thought his hand was going to fall off
She wasn't being fed, she's just a freaking headcase. Just tries to kill everything that moves.
She's been cooled for breeding but has not gone off her food, don't think she ever could! She's already mailed my dwarf albino retic with a tooth in the eye, and tried to constrict the platinum to death also. You can't even change her water dish on your own. She's the most alert snake I have ever seen. As soon as you walk into the room, she is up nosing away at the glass. And she will do her best to kill you every time you open it!
Ask Ben about the nutty Jampea he graced Lisa and Dave with
You can't get a hook near her either, she'll just charge straight through it for you, or bite it. The only way to work her is to pin her head down and get her from behind the head, taking care not to let her constrict you as you take her out, because boy will she do her best
I didn't get any pics unfortunately, as wwas too busy trying to unwind her from dave's arm, then unwind her from my leg. And to think she's only 13 ft. Luckily, i've never come across anything else as crazy as her! Some of ours are a bit nasty, but nothing like her.
I love her, but she is definitely a lot of work.
As for tap training...I don't buy it as a form of classical or operative conditioning.
However, I do think it works as a distractor and stops the snake lunging for the first thing to enter their viv. I never go near any of the retics without a hook, big or small (bar the crazy Jamp) and always tap gently before doing anything. I think it's good practise
