P. metallica!!!
Hey all, just thought I would come on and gloat LOL. I have paid my 3inch legspan juvie female Poecilotheria metallica off, and will have her next Saturday!!! I know some people think they are over priced and over rated, but I have always wanted one and I'm doing it for myself, no one else. So there will be pics to follow.....
In the mean time thought I would post a few old pics;
H. lividum s'ling.
C. schioedtei s'ling.
P. irminia juvie(mature male now).
P. irminia Sub-adult female.
P. pulcher sub-adult female(straight after moult).
Same as above.

Re: P. metallica!!!
Nice acquisition!! I personally think they are a very beautiful spider, quiet aestheticly pleasing IMO and to be honest it really is a matter of personal taste isn't it, so I say sod what everyone else thinks and go for what you like. Looking forward to some pics and loving the guy with the bee like rump, what species is this?

Thanks Tanpira, I would still rather pay £100 for a P. metallica than for a Monocentropus balfouri, I'm just not that keen on those. The T in question is Psalmopoeus irminia- Venezuelan Sun Tiger. Probably my fav species ever!! They are great fun to keep. They grow like lightning, eat like machines and look amazing. My male just had his ultimate moult so I will breeding this species in the next few months

Yeah the females keep that colouration, with males going a silvery grey with the orange chevrons on the abdomen, and really thick setae on the the legs.

Re: P. metallica!!!
Lovely T's! I agree with you, the P. irminia's definitely one of my favourites. For me the chevrons on their lesgs and the tiger stripe pattern on the abdomen is what attracts me to this species. My largest one (Houdini - guess how she got her name) is going for a molt soon. Hopefully she'll put on a fairly decent size, she's still only a juvenile.
Congratulations of getting a P. metallica. I have one form a sling and she's just gotten her colours after her last molt and she's looking stunnning. She made a bit of a pig of herself the other day munching crickets like they were going out of fashion.

LOL it's a shortened name for Poecilotheria genus, all the ornamental tarantulas. It's a type of tarantula keeper jargon, the same way most, if not all African species are called baboon tarantulas.

Re: P. metallica!!!
Your first Pokie? Cool. I started off with P. regalis slings and noticed that they grow faster than most species with a fairly great appetite.
My P. metallica just molted again (4 weeks back approx was the last one) and I can't wait to get a proper look at her and perhaps sex her molt at this stage.
The colouration just bagan to show on the previous molt, now it's amazing. I'll try to get some pictures up later on. I'm still looking for my charger for the camera.

Re: P. metallica!!!
Well I got my pokies on Friday, hooray!!! Haven't been able to get pics of the rufliata or pederseni as of yet. I did however get a few snaps of my Tarantula royalty, Poecilotheria metallica. There was a lot of webbing going down, and as you can see from the pics, is not shy of her grub so hopefully a moult on the horizon
Here she is...
