The Longest Tongue!

Now we have, face shots and eye shots and there's been a little talk of tongue shots....so tongue shots it is...how about the longest tongue...here's one of the Bull's demonstrating a pretty good example...anyone out there better the size of that tongue???

It'll take me ages trying to get a good shot with their tongue out lol. Plus we don't feed them til the evening, so you may be waiting a while for these pics lol.

Well, I took loads of photos at feeding time tonight and only managed to get 2 pics with Thelma's tongue extended out. Even then, her tongue can go a lot farther than it is in these pics. The pics are also terribly blurry :( I think you'll agree that this is the longest tongue so far :P

You can see the poor girls burns in the pics too.

Chris, those burns look nasty, I notice you've an unguarded bulb but can't figure out whether it's inside or outside the viv....

Anyway it's a timely reminder to mention guarding especially to those starting off...

....for all those folk out there that heat using incandescent or ceramic elements, attach to thermostat if possible, guard your heat source and protect your animals from the risk of burns....guards need not break the bank....check out Karl's post on how to make an effective homer guard below, you'll be glad you took this precaution...

That bulb is inside the viv, but that's just the UV bulb which generates relatively little heat (it's the energy saving swirl-type bulb), the heat lamp (you can't see in the pic) has a bulb guard. I'd actually just finished building that viv and had just put her inside to get a feel for it and offer here a few insects. I've always had bulb guards for my chams, but she got burnt when we had her in a tank I had made for her to lay her eggs and she managaed to get through the guard I had made as there was little height in said tank.

Anywho, had a look at that post about DIY guards and it's a super post! I've been looking around for a while for a simple way to make a bulb guard and that's perfect! Only thing is, I've found it hard to get small sheets of mesh up here in Belfast. I dare say there are loads of places that sell them, I just don't know them lol. I tried B & Q, where I would normally get my wood etc for building vivs, but they seemed really expensive and I could only find big rolls of mesh - far more than I needed.

Yup, the home guards are dead easy to make and work...you should be able to get smallish sheets of variable gauge mesh from most hardware stores, garden centres, Homebase...and I'm kind of surprised B&Q didn't have any....maybe all the forum members got down before you and depleted stocks...

lol, had me name down on the first spare albino to come up from the previous batch ...two pairs here now, one from the previous litter and one from this one

ok no photography skills like the rest of you guys but this looks like a pretty long tongue to me
