And so it begins, ive been bit
After an innocent trip to Adys where I thought id simply enquire about a beardie and a snake, ive put a deposit down for a nice little carmel corn snake, it was bound to happen eventually aand im now in the club, let the snakes begin! If id the room and maybe a little more experience id have been more than willing for the rainbow boa, but ill start small, inches to be exact :P
All and any further tips much appreciated but ady was more than helpful getting me sorted

Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
Yay welcome to the club. I love corns. Many people use or view them as a starter snake only and then move on to bigger and better things as they see it but I could never be without them.
Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
Yeah so many lovely different types, inally got the one thing ive always wanted and can not wait, just need it kitted out and im sorted

Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
What housing and substrate are you going for and how old is the corn? I love how you say went into Adys innocently hahaha. I find it's much better to say went for inspiration and found it
Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
Haha it had crossed my mind to enquire about a snake :P and ady has some housing at his place already for the wee guy, and its on aspen so guessing the same? basically going with what he gives I suppose, as for age I cant remember but stretched out would be the length of your forearm roughly, maybe 1 years old? a wild guess at trying to remember :P
whats an easy leaned or maintained sub? know alot of people use different types and stuff

Awesome stuff man!!! :)
Substrate for corns? Easily maintained? newspaper lol, it works a treat, that or Aspen, tbh if it's young go with aspen as he'll feel sooooo secure if he can burrow and hide and all that, and when he gets bigger go for newspaper cos my guy is just soiling himself non stop....I'm out of damn newspaper lmao

Nice one welcome to the club, it's all down hill from here
i wouldn't worry too much about cleaning up after a wee corn, when you get something a lot bigger and they start pump out huge poo's, it's not a pretty sight
Anyhoo, make sure and get some pics up when you get the wee dude home Marty

Nice one mate, does the GF like snakes?
You've done it now though, you've been bit by the snake bug, there's no cure for it either, all you can do now is feed the addiction
Get some photo's up when you get a chance
Marty

Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
Well there's no going back now. I wonder what the next one will be
Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
congrats on the new addition!
I have been using mostly newpaper as a substrate - get loads of it free from newsagents when they are out of date!
I'm changing back to a bedding I previously used though for a lot of them as i find that although paper is great, it just doesn't absorb smell when they go to the loo and the place stinks straight away. With a little corn you won't have too much bother with anything though

I agree with Lisa, we tried newspaper for a short while and the smell was awful, the newspaper didn't absorb much of anything (except the water in the water bowl)
We are now using Cosibed which is a horse bedding material and which is brilliant at absorbing snake poo and more importantly, when the snakes are in the house, the smell.
Its very cost effective and the snakes love to burrow into it.
As others have said the whole rep scene is very addictive and I bet this is the first of many.

Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
great job mate, my first snakes were corn i only wanted 1...mum somehow came home with three(i didnt complain)...so great job you have the snake bug alls left now is for you to get the boa bug....
newspapers....i find them ok, smells not really much of a problem, i usualy lift the affected sheets out as soon as i notice, and change them at end of each month...
tho keeping them moist is hard they dry out to quick....

Re: And so it begins, ive been bit
I don't spray any of my corns and have never had a shedding problems or otherwise, just always make sure I have a good sized water dish in the house for them and they do great but this is a matter of opinion as Joe has said before he bathes and I know some others do spray so it's about finding what works for you I suppose.
