My other Nic...
This one is my 2007 female, just shed the other day

heres a pre-shed pic, taken the night before the shed, you can set your watch from the day this boa goes into a shed, and when she sheds; like clockwork
not a great picture, but you can see the difference[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

She's a very pretty boa, Matt. Very clean and healthy looking, and I love her tail!

Re: My other Nic...
Cheers for the comments!
This boa is old reliable when it comes to feeding, shedding etc, she is on the medium rats now, and they're no bother to her.
She has had quite a fast metabolism since I've had her, nothing out of the ordinary or anything, she just made big food items disappear without getting too much size on her!
I gave this boa a Winter break from the food of 3 months or so, and she toned up very well during this time, shedding twice over the break too, clearly developing during this time.
3 months might have been a bit much, maybe two would be better, but it has done this girl no harm at all, I would even say it has strengthened her feeding response.
Now she is feeding again, looking healthier than ever, and has taken to the medium adult rats the last few feeds; looking forward to seeing her develop more over the next year..

Re: My other Nic...
another beautiful Nic
3 months sounds perfect, its good to winter your boas as this is wht would happen in their natural inviroment.as well as giving them time to turn fat into muscle etc i belive it helps set their natural body clock so they are in tune with the seasons and in this helps let them know its breeding time when they are ready.I cool all my boas even neos get an ambeint drop.

Re: My other Nic...
Cheer for the feedback Phil, always good to hear how successful breeders cycle their boas
@Greg, I reckon she is probably good to go this year, provided she feeds well for me through this season. I just need to sort out a male for her still!
I was looking at one for her but it fell through yesterday.. Regardless of whether I try her this year or not, I will be prioritizing a male for the two Nics, it has to be done man.. Thats the good thing about having grown on the females myself, I know what condition they are in, so if I get a male Nic for them that was grown on himself, I would be happy enough to try him out on them.
I'm looking into a few different breeders, nobody really has what I'm after, but plenty have said to check back with them in the Summer

Re: My other Nic...
No not this year I don't think Greg.
I only picked them up last year as a grown on pair, maybe this year after they've been in my care a little longer, they'll do the deed for me.
The female was always a little small, I think her previous owner thought feeding her weaner rats and only the occasional small/med rat was OK, I'd think otherwise! She is a small rats minimum for me know, and also takes mediums just as keenly, which I prefer to offer to her..
We'll see how she progresses this year, she is a beauty of a boa, and I would like to see her breed successfully
As for the male I picked up from James in Reptile Haven, he'll do the business I'd say.. He is a character of a boa, really headstrong, and always rambles about the place. I need to put a sheet over the front of his viv at feeding time, because he is easily distracted, more interested in outside the viv than in!
