Its been donkey's years since I kept Emperors, so I decided it was time I rekindled my memories by acquiring this 'lil fella (I think its a fella)

Full body shot
Emperor Scorpion P1040416

Tail and stinger - its amazing how the tail segments resemble those of a crab's legs, yet apart from being inverts they are unrelated
Emperor Scorpion P1040417

Carapace showing medial and lateral eyes
Emperor Scorpion P1040420

Mandibles
Emperor Scorpion P1040422

Big claws - rather than being true black pigment, the exoskeleton is a dark red-brown which shows up when the flash is used
Emperor Scorpion P1040421

Strangely I've never had a problem handling these guys, but I've always soiled my undergarments when it came to Tarantulas....quite why I don't know as they're both arachnids. Phobias can be odd things.

I love how they look smooth from a distance but are covered in sensory hairs all over. This dude is still a tad nervous but once he's settled in and feeding he'll be on the hands for sure :)
