We managed to catch our Chilean Rose tarantula in the act of devouring a very large cricket,

Just for comparison here is our Brazilian black devouring his cricket last week

Excellent pics. Do you have future plans for these guys or are they just 'pets'

At the moment we are enjoying them simply as pets and learning very quickly about Tarantulas, Nikki is not keen to breed them as the thought of having to cope with 4 -5 hundred baby spids gives her nightmares! I would like to try at least once but if any turn out to be males we may well lend them out to other breeders.
We will probably have a long wait as the slings will take at least 4 -5 years before they are any where near maturity but we are having lots of fun feeding them and looking after 14 little spiders in their plastic pots. So far it seems we are on the right track (thanks to all the info from Raymond) as they have all shed at least once and are eating well. We got the two large spids mainly to satisfy Adams impatience as he can't wait for the slings to grow large enough for him to handle them.

TBH I know the feeling, it isn't the spids that bother me, I love most spiders it's the shed, I have a thing with dead spids and sheds look like dead spids so I would just be in creep out hell. From the experience point of view it would be very interesting to give it a go especially if it is a sought after species as then you know homes will be lining up.

Please bear with us on this one! We are fascinated with the feeding of our spids and Nikki has got camera happy so here is another couple of pics of Trojan our Brazilian Black this time tackling a locust.
I am sure the novelty of taking pics every time they feed or move will wear off soon Tarantulas 772154

We were lucky enough to buy it locally from someone going out of spiders. We have since purchased two
G. pulchra spiderlings at £12.00 each from the Spidershop in England. They may take a few years to reach adult size but judging by the speed at which they grow it won't take too long. In total we purchased 14 slings of 7 different species and so far only one didn't make it. The largest are now bigger than a 50p piece and growing/moulting like mad.
