New camera
I picked up a new DSLR camera the afew weeks back, i had a good look around and did a bit of research first. I eventually decided on a Nikon D3000 with a twin lens bundle
It comes with a 4 GB memory card, 18-55mm VR Lens and a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Lens. The Tamron lens has a handy little switch on the side to switch between normal mode and macro mode. This is a fantastic package and a really simple camera to use, it can also produce some fantastic shots.
Here's a link to The package where you can view more info
Nikon D3000
Here's a few shots i've taken so far
one of my female boa using the macro
Here's a few from my holiday in majorca
a few shots of the scenery just outside a place called C'an Picafort
A few pictures from our visit to Marineland
all of the dolphin photo's were captured using a fast shutter speed to avoid blurring
The following images were captured using multishoot mode which means the camera captures around 3 frames per second
Marty

Re: New camera
Great holiday phots Marty...loving the dolphins....
With moving subjects have a play around with continuous focus if your camera has it......focus and track the subject through it's movement, release the shutter...what you get is a focused subject and blurred or moving background...it adds to the motion and movement in an image....here are a couple of examples...
In your snake shot, there isn't a great deal of depth of field...what macro [or in Nikons case Micro] lens were you using? The 2 lenses that you bought with the camera were neither macro....
Bottom line....you can't go wrong with a Nikon....continued happy snapping....

Re: New camera
Thanks Tony
Neither of the lenses are dedicated macro lens but the tamron has a switch on the side to allow it to be used as a macro lens.
I have to agree though you can't go wrong with a nikon

Re: New camera
Here's the switch i'm talking about Tony
You can only switch it over when the lens is over 180, the switch locks the lens between 180 and 300.

Tamron are good lenses Marty and it should do what it says on the tin, whenever you switch to macro....[and try your snake shot again] increase the F stop to 8, 9 or 10 and take the shot again.....see if your image has a sharper appearance through the image. Depth of field is discussed in a little more detail on another thread....have a play around and repost the close up again and see where we are....
