First hatchlings Empty First hatchlings

Post by Big Dogg Thu Jul 01, 2010 5:58 pm

Kinda copying molock gibbon's post, but I too have just had my 1st ever snakes hatch lol. 1st one pipped last night and I now have 3 out so far. I need a bit of help with the genetics though... The mother is an aztec (think this is also known as zig-zag) and the father was either an anery or a snow (more than likely the anery as this is a proven breeder). So I was expecting all normal het anery, het aztec and poss het amel (I think that's what it would be lol). BUT, the 2nd snake to come out was an anery (at least it looks anery so far lol - it's a lot darker than the 2 normals). So surely this means the mother must be het anery? If this is the case, I should expect 1 or 2 more anery and the normals would all be het aztec, poss het anery and poss het amel? Also, the anerys should be het for aztec. Does that sound about right? lol. I'll get pics up tomorrow...

The photos are superb well done, the first and second clearly show the hatchling's attempt to cut his way out at least 3 times..maybe that part of the shell was a little too tough for him to negotiate!... Very Happy

Hi

Congrats on the hatchlings

With this pair you,ll never really know who the father is unless you get some amel ,
which would lead toward the aztec being het snow and the father being the Snow .
Unless ofcourse the aztec and Anery are both het Amel ....
If you do have anerys in the clutch then the mother is het anery but the father will still have a question mark .
As the clutch outcome with either is still 50/50 .

Snow father - 1 / 2 Anery het Amel , 1 / 2 Normal het Amel, Anery

Anery father - 1 / 2 Anery , 1 / 2 Normal het Anery

As for being het aztec ?..... Aztec do not breed 100% true the same way as a recessive traits .
Thats not to say the some of your hatchling could show some aztec pattern .

Hope that helps and makes some sort of sense ....
Are they all out yet ?

Thanks Nikki - I thought aztec/zigzag was a recessive gene like motley and stripe. Thanks for clearing that up. And as for the father, I'd be pretty certain its the anery. Either way, when I sell them, they'll be sold as anery and normal het anery. Will the normals all be 100% het anery then?

Post by Big Dogg Tue Jul 20, 2010 2:15 am

I got 10 from the 1st clutch (the anery and het anery clutch) and still 1 healthy looking egg that I put a little incision in, to see if it will hatch, and I've now had the 2nd clutch of eggs start to hatch (4 out so far). They were from a sunkissed mother and either a snow or anery father. Though I could do with a little advice folks. The babies from the 2nd clutch are pale pink and 1 is bright orange (like an amel). Any ideas as to what morph they are? I will post pics this evening after work. Also, the babies from the 1st clutch are really wirey and snappy lol (I expected this anyway), but the 2nd clutch are alot calmer. Any ideas as to why they are different?

All the babies that I've tried to feed so far ate 1st time.

So the 2nd clutch is Sunkissed X Snow or Anery .
Sounds like youve got a snow and amel hatchlings .
Meaning your Sunkissed is het amel and anery and all hatchling would be het Sunkissed .
Would need to see pics to be sure , would love to see pics of your Sunkissed girl aswell .

I found that some clutches can be more snappy than other for what ever reason . I had a clutch of snows last year that would
strike out at other hatchling that where in different tubs beside each other ... lol . They all soon calm down .

Cheers for the advice Nikki. Are snow babies usually pale pink? I'm posting this on my iPhone, so can't upload pics at the minute, but will definately try to get some up tomorrow. This 2nd clutch is def far more laid back than the 1st lol. Would you handle them much at this stage? Also when's best to pop them, to determine the sex?

Thanks

I can't offer much apart from my own snow was very pink when he was a little worm and has gotten more white & greenish/yellow as he's gotten older but I think like with many things the photos are needed as some morphs are very close and although your description of colour is excellent it can't compare to a visual. Nikkis the man anyway when it comes to them, our little corn guru First hatchlings 792195
