Now you know all these figures I'm still trying to get my head around but I've only heard 66% & 100% as high numbers so is this one of those stupid mistakes I would have made a couple years back Phil??

Sounds a bit dodgey since he is also selling a diamond back rattler as well.

I didn't mention it but was thinking it Phil lol was only going high there but still dopey me had forgotten bout 50% too lol (see that's why your the go to guy for all this, I haven't a clue half the time).

So what's the story up there, can you guys keep venomous once doctored and no DWA or does the animal, no matter what's been removed or how 'safe' it's been made still need DWA??

I'm almost certain that you require a DWAL regardless of whether a venomous snake has had its venom glands removed or not - even if the surgery is successful the removed parts can re-grow. That would mean that any DWAL snakes being sold must (a) be being sold by a DWA holder and (b) must be sold to someone with a DWAL. It is entirely up to the seller to ensure (b), and so someone simply selling a Western Diamondback on Gumtree, with no mention of DWAL, is a little sus IMO. Oh, that and the fact that its hardly the place to sell them LOL

Post by trunx on Thu Sep 10, 2009 12:10 am

there is a thriving 'black market' in venomous snakes up here. not alot of keepers went in for the dwa thing when it came in. as far as i know venomoid snakess still require a licence, as morellia said the glands can and will grow back if not done correctly. personally i wouldnt trust a venomoid snake. if a mojave rattler retained 5% of its venom makin capabality it could still do alot of damage if not kill you. plus why would you get a venomous snake made venomoid? if you think there is a chance of getting tagged the venomous snakes arent the best to have. and you also dont sell them on gumtree!!..................

For the most part they rely on the public to 'report' the adverts to them so in theory if no one reports the advert it will remain till the poster decides to remove it.
