Very interesting stuff. Here's a link to a paper by James Hennessey, recording parthenogenesis in his Mile monitor at Rep Village -

Thanks for the links Warren I'm looking forward to having a read at the paper.

Steve, I think Tan put up a topic about asexual reproduction in whiptail lizards a while back, I try to find it.

I have read about it happening before I think it is more common with insects.

Unfortunately no genetic testing was performed on that individual, otherwise it would have made better press.

In all lizard examples, with the exception of the monitors, parthengenesis has resulted ancestrally from mating between closely related species. This is actually known as Gynogenesis, meaning parthenogenesis in the presence of sperm. Sperm, is of course, not utilised there. In my example in Boas, this is the first record of multipl, viable, parthenogenetic females with the sex chromosomal arrangement WW.

Nice research! Theres so much still to learn about the animals we have right under our noses. I mean who knows what we would find if similar studies were done routinely.
