Snake feeding and shedding records Empty Snake feeding and shedding records

I now find myself with a number of snakes and I'm mulling over whether to keep a feeding and shedding record of these guys. (Actually I'm pretty sure I will).

I just wanted to find out how many of you keep these records and what kind of info do you record?

I've kept basic husbandry records for all of my animals for the last 10 years - initially as written records but now I use Excel and have everything saved on a memory stick.

I record where the animal came from, when it was born / hatched (if known), breeder (if known), when I obtained it, and details of feeding, shedding and any other comments such as weights, lengths, temperatures, moving vivs etc. and these have proved invaluable over the years.

Its such an easy thing to do - and is especially worthwhile if you have more than a few animals as its so easy to lose track of who ate and when, who shed and when, who refused food and why etc.

I keep records...... When I remember that is, I keep forgetting to write it down. I use index cards, one for each snake then I just put down the date, weather the snake ate or refused and the size of prey item eg large weaner, then same again just write the date then shed beside it. It would look something like this

22/09/10 Ref
27/09/10 Shed
29/09/10 F sm weaner

i keep all the lengths weights, shed, refused feeds in a book, but usually just have to write on the glass the date of feeding.

i always mean to start a proper record but i forget to write things down if theres 4 or more feeds the same day lol, alot easier to make comments in a book and keep feds on the vivs

Yea, I'll definitely start this habit. I think I'll have to hunt for the hatch info for the snakes from previous owners though.
