Strange looking critter...do you think this is the way the hobby's going? What are your thoughts on hybrids?

I don't like that at all. There are already recognised hybrids within the colubrids so maybe this is the way these guys will go. I am intrigued to know more about temperament, fertility etc...

As we see with other hybrids, one or other physical trait can shine so two hybrids with the same parentage can have physical differences. Is there any more images or information of this particular cross?

I like the appearance of the BallTic, however its nowhere near as nice as a pure Retic or pure Royal. I wonder how it will look as an adult? Does its name mean it can be kept a lot cooler than either parent? hehehe

Its similar to the BurmBall scenario where one parent is massively bigger (as a species) than the other, and so the resulting offspring could potentially have internal defects as they grow and age. If the Retic used was a dwarf then I guess this argument doesn't hold as much as if it was a mainland Retic.

I feel that if hybridising doesn't cause defective offspring and the offspring are nice and different then why not, providing they look different from either parent and so cannot be confused with anything else. Obviously the more closely related the two parents are, the more compatible genetically they will be and there is a better chance the offspring will survive and do well.....but then we're still not really too sure how related a lot of snakes are e.g. the Retic was once in the same genus as the Royal (genus Python) but its now assigned a new genus name, Broghammerus (although I'm not sure how widely accepted this new genus is just yet).

There are plenty of intergeneric (between two different genera) hybrids out there such as the Coma (carpet python x Woma), Wall (Woma x Ball) and of course the more familiar Jungle corn (Corn x Cali King) some of which are nice and impressive (beauty is in the eye of the beholder though).
